A 18th-century grave marker in the (Catholic) parish cemetery of St. Georg, which was outside of the city walls when it was founded in 1543, and now is part of the the downtown. The skull has one bat wing and one bird wing to indicate that the soul of the departed is being watched over in both the night and in the day.
Skulls as grave decorations were popular for some time, but fell out of fashion in the late 18th century.
